Origin Story

Planet Pup started during the long COVID lockdowns in Hong Kong, when many of us suddenly began working from home.

Around that time, I adopted Rocco, a very sweet, very loving rescue dog who quickly discovered the joy of squeaky toys. Unfortunately, he also discovered them during my Zoom meetings.

And so this got me thinking:

Dogs can hear dog whistles at frequencies humans can’t… so why doesn’t a dog toy work like that?

That question led to two years of development with engineers and manufacturers to create Whisper Tech – an ultrasonic squeaker tuned to around 24,000 Hz, a frequency dogs can hear clearly but most humans barely notice.

Rocco tested every prototype along the way (a job he still takes very seriously).

As the toys were taking shape, I started building the world around them. I’ve always loved the 80s arcade era, and aliens felt like the perfect characters – playful, a little strange, and fully customisable.

That’s how The Whisper Squad was born: a crew of aliens disguised as dog toys, each designed with everything dogs love:

  • tug-of-war limbs,

  • cuddly soft plush bodies

  • textures made for chewing and teeth cleaning

  • loud (for them) squeaky sounds

Each character is also inspired by one of my closest friends growing up, which is why every alien in the squad has its own personality.

And now, seeing dogs play with the Whisper Squad toys feels like sharing a small piece of the goodness in my life. And I hope doggies and their parents love the toys as much as I have creating them. <3
